Canon printers and multifunction devices are among the most widely used in South African offices. The Canon ImageRunner range, in particular, features in thousands of businesses across Gauteng and beyond. When a Canon device develops a fault, getting it back online quickly matters.
Monostat’s technicians work on Canon devices daily. This guide covers the faults we see most often and how we resolve them.
Canon ImageRunner: The Most Common Faults
The Canon ImageRunner series (including the 2930i, 2425, 2945, and Advance DX models) is designed for high-volume office use. These are robust machines, but certain faults appear across the range.
E000001 to E000007 (Fuser error codes): These codes indicate a problem with the fuser unit, specifically with temperature regulation. The fuser heats and cools through a precise cycle. When sensors, thermistors, or heating elements fail, these codes appear. A fuser replacement resolves the fault in most cases, but the root cause must be identified to prevent recurrence.
E0XX (Main motor errors): Motor errors indicate a problem with the main drive motor or the belt and gear assembly it powers. Diagnosis requires removing the drive train assembly to identify whether the motor or a mechanical component has failed.
Paper feed errors: The ImageRunner series uses a series of sensors to track paper movement through the device. When a sensor fails or a feed roller wears, the device misreads paper position and triggers a jam error even when no paper is present.
Scanner faults on MFP models: Canon MFP scanners are reliable but the scanner unit can develop positioning errors or CCD image sensor faults that cause scan lines, colour shifts, or complete scanner failure.
Drum and toner issues: The Canon ImageRunner uses a drum and developer unit system. When prints show persistent black lines, white bands, or uneven density, the drum unit is usually the cause.
Canon ImageClass and Laser A4 Devices
The ImageClass range (including the MF465dw and 1643iF models) is popular in smaller offices. Common faults include:
Connectivity issues: Wi-Fi and network connectivity faults on the MF range are frequently caused by firmware issues or incorrect network configuration rather than hardware failure.
Cartridge errors: Canon A4 devices are sometimes triggered by non-genuine cartridges. We resolve cartridge errors without voiding your device warranty.
Output quality faults: Toner streaking and drum contamination are the most common quality faults on A4 Canon devices. Both are resolved with drum and cartridge inspection.
Canon Wide Format Printers
Canon A0 and A1 wide format printers (imagePROGRAF series) are used in architecture, engineering, and design environments. These devices require specialist knowledge.
Print head clogs: The most common wide format fault. Ink sits in the print head nozzles and dries if the device is not used regularly. A print head cleaning cycle resolves mild cases. Severe blockages require print head removal and ultrasonic cleaning.
Ink system faults: Wide format devices have complex ink delivery systems with multiple tubes, dampers, and pumps. Blockages or pump failures produce inconsistent ink supply and uneven output.
Media handling errors: Roll feed and cut sheet handling systems in wide format devices develop feed faults as rollers wear. A roller replacement restores reliable media handling.

Genuine Parts for Canon Repairs
One of the most important factors in a quality repair is the parts used. Monostat sources genuine Canon components and approved compatible parts where genuine parts are unavailable. We do not fit cheap aftermarket parts that fail prematurely and cause secondary damage.
When we quote a repair, we specify the parts being used so you know exactly what is going into your device.
